Composition and advantages of transparent powder filler
The transparent powder is a mixture of several non-metallic minerals with high transparency, good whiteness, acid, and corrosion resistance. It has high transparency, and the refractive index of the filler itself is very close to that of most synthetic resins, so the filling amount of the filler does not affect the transparency of the finished product; it can improve the surface smoothness and wear and scratch resistance of the product; low oil absorption and large filling amount are conducive to reducing the manufacturing cost of the product.
Transparent powder is a common name in the coating industry. Although more than 50% of coating manufacturers use transparent powder to a greater or lesser extent, there is no unified standard or statement in the industry for what kind of powder transparent powder is. In fact, the transparent powder is not a single powder. In addition to the main component of natural ore, special synthetic auxiliary materials are added for mixed grinding and modification. The main component is a composite silicate containing magnesium, aluminum, and calcium, which is an inorganic salt, and also contains some sulfates and impurities.
The transparent powder is a new type of functional transparent filler with the characteristics of high transparency, good hardness, good hue, high gloss, good anti-collapse, and less dust during use. It is used in oily furniture paint, decoration paint, adhesives, inks, and plastics. At first, the transparent powder was only used in oily wood paint. In a few years, the market response gradually transitioned from unfamiliarity and recognition to cautious use and large-scale application, from a single paint industry to the coating industry, and then to the entire chemical industry.
Transparent powder is an inorganic filler with the characteristics of high transparency, high hardness, and high toughness, which greatly improves the quality of the paint film. Its use value is recognized by the coating industry, and some well-known companies have adopted it in large quantities. The transparent powder has good chemical stability, acid and alkali resistance, and does not contain toxic and harmful substances, so customers can use it with confidence.
There are several small problems to pay attention to in the application of transparent powder:
First, its high hardness and high toughness will make the paint film difficult to polish, which requires a change in concept, because the increase in hardness and toughness means that the quality of the paint film is improved, and the relative difficulty of polishing is also increased.
Second, it is difficult to prevent transparent powder from sinking. There have been many successful experiences in the coating industry in preventing the sinking of pigments and fillers. Usually, there are two principles for preventing sinking: one is longitudinal anti-sinking and the other is transverse anti-sinking. When the transverse and longitudinal cross, a mesh structure is formed, which has an anti-sinking effect. Of course, it is not anti-sinking. When the paint is diluted, the transparent powder still has a tendency to sink relative to the resin, because its specific gravity is greater than that of the resin, so the spraying time needs to be adjusted appropriately.
Third, some transparent powders on the market are easy to absorb moisture, so the packaging must be moisture-proof.
As a functional transparent filler with outstanding performance, more economical, environmentally friendly, and safer to use, the transparent powder will definitely bring a new pattern to the sub-material filler industry.
